Men's Golf Team Wins The Orchard Fall Collegiate Invitational
The
Piedmont College men's golf team posted its first tournament win of
the season this evening as the Lions won The Orchard Fall Collegiate
Invitational held at The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville,
GA with a team score of 297 (+9). PC's Stephen Giddens (pictured) earned
his third career tournament victory by winning medalist honors with
one under par 71.
The team score of nine-over par qualifies the Lions for their third
consecutive National Christian College Athletic Association National
Championship tournament. Piedmont will particpate in the 36-hole event
October 10-11 at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, OH.
Giddens birdied the final hole to edge teammate Matt Howell (72) for
medalist honors. Sophomores Matt Goodall (3rd) and Andy Cartwright (T
6th) rounded out the Lions' scoring with 75 and 79 respectively as all
four players earned top-10 finishes. Despite being the Lions' drop score,
David Adcock (83, T 9th) earned his first top-10 finish of the season.
Piedmont out-distanced runner-up Truett McConnell College (323) by 35
strokes. The tournament victory is the Lions' fourth team championship
in the last two seasons.
Piedmont returns to action on October 7-8 when the Lions take part in
the prestigious Powerade Classic at River Greens Golf Course in West
