Lady Lion Golf Team Breaks School Record Twice En Route To Third-Place Finish At Sewanee Fall Invitational

The Piedmont College women's golf team shattered the 18-hole school record twice en route to a third-place finish at the University of the South Fall Invitational this weekend at the Sewanee Golf & Tennis Club in Sewanee, TN. Piedmont's Lynne Laseter carded a 36-hole total of 89-89--178 which was good for second-place overall in the 20-player field and earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.

On the first day, Piedmont posted a team score of 411 (+115) over the par 74 track which bettered the previous single-round school record of 144-over par set in the Spring of 2003 by 29 strokes.

On the second day, the Lady Lions improved to a team score of 399 (+103) improving another 12 strokes on the new school record. Sunday's score was more impressive as the round was played in 40-mph winds and rain as part of the remnants of Hurricane Rita.

Laseter moved up one spot from third to medalist runner-up with a second day 89 (+15). Piedmont's 12-stroke improvement was the best of the four-team field as the Lady Lions were the only team to have all five team members equal or improve on their opening-day scores.

Piedmont will wrap up its Fall 2005 schedule on Tuesday, October 4th when the Lady Lions host The Orchard Fall Invitational at The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
