Piedmont Runners Compete At LaGrange
Invitational
The
Piedmont College men's and women's cross country teams got a taste of
Great South Athletic Conference competition this morning as both teams
competed in the LaGrange College Invitational held at Pyne Road Park
in LaGrange, GA. The men's team finished in third place while the women's
squad finished seventh.
On the men's side, the Lions recorded
66 team points finishing behind meet winner Maryville (29) and runner-up
LaGrange (39). Jim Fields was the Lions' top finisher with an 8K time
of 31:16 marking his personal-best of the 2005 season.
On the women's side, the Lady Lions finished
seventh out of seven schools and were led by freshman Jennifer Gathercoal
(pictured) as she posted a 6K time of 31:14. The meet marked the first
time this season the Lady Lions have run a NCAA-sanctioned 6K race.
Agnes Scott College laid claim to the women's title with 48 team points.
Both teams return to action on Saturday,
October 1st when they travel to Macon, GA to take part in the Georgia
Collegiate Championships hosted by Mercer University.
