Piedmont
Opens GSAC Competition By Going 2-2 On The Weekend
The
Piedmont College volleyball team split four matches in the first of
three Great South Athletic Conference weekends. The Lady Lions defeated
host Huntingdon College 3-1, then fell to LaGrange College 3-0 and Maryville
College 3-0. Piedmont then rebounded on Sto defeat Wesleyan College
3-0.
Piedmont's victory over Huntingdon College
was the team's first since the 2003 season. In that contest B. J. Ostrzycki
(pictured) earned a season-high 48 assists.
Against Wesleyan College Haylee Davis
earned 17 assists and Meghann Clark added eight kills.
On the weekend, Ashley Landers reached
double-figure kills for the sixth time and averaged nearly 12 kills
per contest while Jacque DeMarrais avereged more than seven kills per
game.
Piedmont now stands at 5-3 overall and
2-2 in the GSAC and will return to action on Tuesday, September 13th
as they travel to GSAC opponent Spelman College in Atlanta, GA starting
at 6:00.
