PC Men's Golf Team To Tee Off 2005-2006 Season

The Piedmont College men's golf team will open up the 2005 fall semester portion of its schedule on Monday when the Lions travel to Wolf Creek Golf Course in East Point, GA to take part in the 3rd Annual ACC Charger Fall Kickoff Classic. The Lions, under the direction of third-year head coach Lee Glenn, will look to continue its steady improvement up the NCAA Division-III national standings with five of its six players rostered as underclassmen.

The Lions finished last season on a high note improving its national standing up to 62nd from 119th in Glenn's first campaign. Additionally, Piedmont claimed a pair of tournament titles winning the Milligan College Invitational and the Lees McRae College Invitational. Last season's four-man freshman class was ranked 2nd nationally among all NCAA Division-III schools in GolfStat.com's Freshman Class Impact Ratings.

Returning from last season's starting lineup are sophomores Stephen Giddens (pictured right), Matt Goodall, and Andy Cartwright. Giddens and Goodall each claimed individual tournament titles last season from the #1 and #2 spots with Cartwright anchoring the #5 position with solid scores throughout the spring semester. The freshman class includes Matt Howell, a transfer from Auburn University, and Cale Padgett, Sequoyah High School's top prep golfer last season. Rounding out the roster for the fall semester will be David Adcock, a golf letterwinner in Coach Glenn's first season.

The Lions' 2005-06 schedule is set for 19 tournament rounds including seven in the fall semester. In addition to the Charger Kickoff, PC will host The Orchard Fall Collegiate at its home course, The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville, GA before traveling to West Lafayette, OH to take part in The Powerade Collegiate and the NCCAA National Championships both hosted at River Greens Golf Course.

The NCCAA National Championship appearance will be the third consecutive under Glenn with the Lions finishing 11th in 2003 before posting a ninth-place finish last year.
