PC Women's Soccer Team Falls In Season-Opener to SWU 4-3
The
Piedmont College women’s soccer fell in their season-opener to
visiting Southern Wesleyan University tonight at PC's Walker Field by
the score of 4-3.
In the first-half, Piedmont's Haley Boyce
(pictured) scored the games first goal 19 minutes in on a pass from
Jessica Powell. Nine minutes later the Lady Lions' Miss Hoffman netted
her first collegiate goal on a cross from Ashley Parker to stretch the
Piedmont lead to 2-0.
Southern Wesleyan answered quickly by
scoring a pair of unassisted goals less than a minute apart from Stefani
Patterson and Megan Ziegler.
After being knotted at two goals apiece
during halftime, the Lady Lions answered first in the second-half on
Boyce's second goal with Parker accumulating her second assist of the
night.
At the 59:00 minute mark SWU's Patterson
netted the equalizer for her second goal of the evening with Caitlin
Andrews earning the assist. At the 87:00 minute mark Jenna Henderson
scored her first collegiate goal for the game-winner.
The game was Piedmont College head coach Jimmy Stephens inaugural game
as the Lady Lions skipper. The win
improves Southern Wesleyan University to 2-0 and drops Piedmont College
to 0-1 overall.
Piedmont returns to action on Tuesday, September 6th when the Lady Lions
travel to Macon, GA to take on Wesleyan College in both team's Great
South Athletic Conference opener.
