PC Cross
Country Teams Set To Open 2005 Season
The Piedmont College men and women’s cross-country teams enter
the 2005 campaign with high expectations. Behind first-year head coach
Jamie Childs the cross-country team will look to return to the NCAA
Division-III South Regional.
On the men’s side Jim Fields, who
finished 5th overall in the Great South last season and was named to
the All-Conference and All-Academic team, will anchor Lions. Joining
Fields is Wally Smith who finished 19th overall and was also a member
of the All-Academic team. Entering the program as newcomers are Timothy
Lees, Jeremy Bishop, and Kallan Williams.
On the women’s side the Lady Lions
are returning five runners from last season led by Ashley Bell, who
finished 6th overall and was named to the Great South All-Conference
and All-Academic teams. Accompanying Bell will be Catherine Gearhart,
Joanna Moye, Jennifer Mulligan, and Jillian Pratt. Jennifer Gathercoal
will be joining the team as a freshman.
The men and women’s 2005 schedule
consists of meets over the course of three months and encompassing four
different states throughout the southeast. The cross-country team will
compete in two meets hosted by Great South teams in the LaGrange College
Invitational and the Maryville College Invitational. The season will
be highlighted on November 5th at the Great South Athletic Conference
Championship hosted by Maryville College in Maryville, TN.
The Piedmont College cross country teams will start the 2005 season
on Saturday when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take part in the
Spartanburg-Methodist Invitational.
