Piedmont
Women's Soccer Team Set To Kick Off 2005 Season
The
Piedmont College women’s soccer team will look to continue their
winning ways under first-year head coach Jimmy Stephens and improve
upon their 11-9-1 mark from a year ago. The Lady Lions finished 5-1
in the conference play and runner-up in the Great South Athletic Conference
Tournament championship game.
The four returning senior starters, Michelle
Shelton, Katie Wood, Brooke Bourgeois, and Ashley Parker will anchor
the Lady Lions in 2005. Haley Boyce (pictured) at forward and Bergdis
Gudnadottir at midfielder accompany the four seniors as returning starters
for Piedmont. There will be ten knew faces, eight of which enter the
program as freshman and look to help lead the Lady Lions to a Great
South championship.
The 2005 schedule for the women’s
soccer team will feature 18 of 19 games against NCAA Division-III South
Region representatives, and will include trips outside the state to
Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. The Lady Lions will
play at home nine times, and compete in a total of 14 Great South Athletic
Conference matches.
Piedmont opens the 2005 season on Thursday when the Lady Lions host
Southern Wesleyan University at 5:00.
