May Alves Highlights 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division-III All-Region
Team Selections
Piedmont College softball player May Alves
was named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division-III All-Atlantic
Region first team while teammates Meredith Ray and Emily Maxey garnered
second team selections. These three players helped lead Piedmont to
their first-ever NCAA Division-III National Championship bid which is
currently being held in Roanoke, VA.
Alves hit .402 for the year with a .561
slugging percentage. She tallied 43 hits, 14 of which were for extra
bases. Alves led the team with 34 RBI's and 16 stolen bases. She also
stands as the NCAA Division-III national leader in hit by pitches with
14 total and a season average of .37 per game.
Ray has been a mainstay on the mound for
PC all season with an overall record of 20-4. She ranks nationally in
NCAA Division-III at 29th and 14th respectively in ERA (1.09) and wins
(20). She was named the Great South Athletic Conference Pitcher of the
Year for the second straight season.
Maxey led the squad in both average (.485)
and slugging percentage (.604). She is currently ranked 20th in NCAA
Division-III for her .485 batting average. She has tallied a team-high
20 walks and 61 total bases. She has recorded 49 hits in only 101 at-bats
with eight doubles and two triples.
