Piedmont Finishes Behind Maryville In 2005-2006 GSAC Presidents' Cups
Maryville College concluded the 2005-2006
Great South Athletic Conference seasons claiming the Great South Athletic
Conference Presidents' Cup for both men and women's athletics. This
marks the second straight year Maryville has claimed the complete sweep.
Piedmont finished runner-up on the women's side and third on the men's
side.
Maryville and Piedmont are the only two
member institutions to win President's Cup with both team housing four
trophies apiece. The women finished a mere 20 points behind Maryville
to finish runner-up. The PC men's tennis team was the lone conference
champion for the Piedmont College Athletic Department. Piedmont finished
runner-up in men and women's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball,
women's tennis, baseball and softball.
Piedmont won the combined Presidents' Cup in 2001. PC also won both
the men's and women's individual cups in 2003 and the women's cup only
in 2004.
The Presidents' Cup, one for men one for
women, is awarded annually to the Great South Athletic Conference school
that accumulate the highest points total in an academic year. The GSAC
is an athletic affiliation of seven NCAA Division-III member institutions
in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.
