The Piedmont College baseball team held off a last inning rally from
fourth-seeded Maryville College as the Lions advanced in the winner's
bracket of the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference Championship this
evening at PC's Walker Field with a 5-3 victory over the Scots. The
top-seeded Lions will now take on third-seeded LaGrange at 1:00 on Sunday
with the winner advancing to the championship game.
MC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and
third innings, but Piedmont responded with three in the bottom of the
third to take the lead for good.
Bill Secor earned the victory for Piedmont while Josh Berens earned
the save after recording the final out with bases loaded. PC's Travis
Hunt was 3-5 from the plate with a run scored and an RBI to lead the
Lions' offense.
