Piedmont College Softball Advances To NCCAA National Tournament Semifinals
With Two Victories
The Piedmont College softball team has
advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association National
Championship semifinals by defeating Bethel College 5-2 and then winning
over host Indiana Wesleyan University 5-4 in nine innings. The Lady
Lions are now one game away from the championship game as they square
off against top-seeded Olivet-Nazarene University tomorrow morning.
Meredith Ray threw a complete-game victory
in game one and recorded the win in game two pitching two and two-thirds
innings of relief. On the day she struck out 12 hitters allowing only
two runs.
Marissa Harding led the way in game one
going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's. May Alves and Heather Denne both went
3-5 in game two with Alves collecting 3 RBI's as well. The Lady Lions
pounded out 17 hits and scored ten runs on day one of the tournament.
Tomorrow's semifinal game will take place
at 10:00. The loser will return to action again immediately following
while the winner will wait until 2:00 for the national championship
game.
