Top-Seeded Softball Team Falls Into GSAC Loser's Bracket
The Piedmont College softball team split
a pair of games this afternoon at the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference
Tournament hosted by Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. The top-seeded Lady
Lions now drop into the loser's bracket and will face second-seeded
LaGrange College in an elimination game tomorrow morning.
In the first game, Piedmont posted a 4-0 victory over fourth-seeded
Maryville College as Meredith Ray threw a complete-game shutout allowing
just four hits while striking out six batters. Marissa Harding led the
way offensively with a perfect 2-2 day from the plate.
In the second game, the Lady Lions suffered their first loss of the
season to a GSAC school as third-seeded Huntingdon downed Piedmont 7-2.
The PC bats went quiet as the team was able to muster only four hits.
Piedmont held a slim 2-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning
before the Lady Hawks pounded out six runs.
Piedmont now will face LaGrange tomorrow in an elimination game with
the winner advancing to the GSAC championship against Huntingdon.
