PC Baseball Team Opens LaGrange Series With Dramatic Win
With Great South Athletic Conference regular-season
championship implications, the Piedmont College baseball team defeated
host LaGrange College by the score of 10-6. The game began last night,
but due to rain was halted and completed this afternoon. The Lions entered
today trailing 6-4 in the top of the ninth but rallied to score six
unanswered runs and win game one.
In the ninth Stan Brosko led off the inning
with a single to rightfield. Matt Devito reached on an error and Cole
Spedale notched an infield single to load the bases. After a strikeout
the Lions got a run on a fielders choice RBI from Travis Hunt. After
Walker Searcy was hit by a pitch Evan Nissley knotted the game at six
runs apiece with an RBI walk.
With two outs in a tie game and the bases
loaded clean-up hitter Andy House hit a 2-1 fastball over the fence
for a grand-slam homerun. Josh Berens then threw a scoreless ninth to
seal the victory for PC.
The victory moves PC to 24-14 overall
and 9-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. These two teams will
meet again this afternoon beginning at 2:00.
