Lions Take Season Series From Sewanee With 10-2 Victory
In decisive fashion, the Piedmont College
baseball team defeated non-conference host University of the South this
afternoon by the score of 10-2 in Sewanee, TN. After scoring the eventual
game-winning three runs in the top of the first inning the Lions tacked
on four runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the ninth to
seal the victory.
B.J. Hampton picked up the relief victory
on the mound throwing four innings allowing only four hits while striking
out two. John Vohlken started the game and threw three innings allowing
only one run in the pre-determined rotation. Josh Berens threw two scoreless
innings to finish the ball game.
Travis Hunt, Walker Searcy and Matt Devito
all tallied a pair of hits at the top of the order. Andy House went
2-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Senior Mike Santowski ended
an 18 game hitting streak but still chipped-in with two RBI's.
The victory moves PC to 23-14 overall.
The Lions will return to action again on Friday, April 21st as they
travel to GSAC opponent LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA for a 7:00
start. The weekend three-game series will determine the regular-season
champions of the Great South Athletic Conference.
