Piedmont Holds Off Huntingdon For 7-6 Conference Victory
The Piedmont College baseball team defeated
visiting Great South Athletic Conference opponent Huntingdon College
for the secod consecutive night by the score of 7-6. Despite a five-run
eighth inning in which the Hawks took the lead, the Lions answered with
a pair of runs in the bottom and held HC scoreless in the ninth for
the one-run victory.
Ian McClary recorded a no-decision but
was impressive going seven and a third innings allowing only one run
while scattering 10 hits. The Lions defense faltered in the eighth allowing
five unearned runs. Josh Berens recorded the save his third of the season.
Offensively the Lions tallied 14 hits
and were led by Travis Hunt who went 3-4 with a pair of runs scored
and an RBI. Mike Santowski went 3-4 and Andy Hosue went 2-4 with three
RBI's. Evan Nissley and Cole Spedale added two hits apiece.
The win moves PC to 16-11 overall and
5-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will go for the
sweep tomorrow, April 2nd, as these two teams will meet in the series
finale beginning at 2:00.
