PC Moves To 10-0 In GSAC Play With Sweep Of Maryville
In a game with huge Great South Athletic
Conference implications, the Piedmont College softball team overcame
visiting Maryville College this afternoon 2-1 and 9-1. After a come-from-behind
victory in game one the Lady Lions kept the momentum and used a five-run
fifth inning to cruise to a 9-1 victory in the nightcap at Walker Field.
After allowing an unearned run in the
top of the first inning PC was able to rally with single runs in the
fifth and sixth innings. In game two the Lady Lions broke the game open
with a five run second inning in which PC sent 10 hitters to the plate.
Meredith Ray threw a complete game to
record the victory in game one. She allowed zero earned runs and struck
out five. Lindsay Drevlow pitched a complete game in the finale as well
allowing one earned run and striking out two.
Marissa Harding led PC offensively going
4-7 with two runs scored and an RBI. May Alves added a 3-7 day from
the plate a run scored and an RBI.
The victory move Piedmont to 15-3 overall
and 10-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions will
return to the field again on Thursday, March 30th as they host GSAC
opponent LaGrange College at Walker Field starting at 4:00.
