Heidelberg Snaps PC's Five Game Winning Streak With Late Rally
After leading 8-3 in the ninth inning
the Piedmont College baseballe team allowed five runs to tie and eventually
the game-winning run in the top of the 13th to fall to visiting Heidelberg
College 9-8 this afternoon at PC's Loudermilk Field. The victory snapped
a five-game winning streak for the Lions.
By scoring a pair of runs in the second,
third, and fifth innings and single runs in the seventh and eighth PC
took an 8-3 lead into the ninth inning. Heidelberg rallied for five
runs on four hits and two sacrifice flies. The two teams traded zeros
for the next two innings, but Heidelberg scored the game-winner in the
top of the 13th to seal the victory.
Evan Nissley led the Lions offensively
by going 4-6 with a stolen base. Andy House went 1-3 with an RBI and
Mike Santowski went 2-6 with an RBI. As a team PC pounded out 14 hits
and stole four bases and committed no errors in the 13 innings.
The loss drops PC to 11-6 overall. The
Lions will resume competition again on Saturday, March 18th as they
travel to Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC for a 1:00 first pitch.
