Piedmont Finishes 16th At Callaway Collegiate Invitational

The Piedmont College men’s golf team opened up its spring semester schedule with a 16th place finish at the Callway Collegiate Invitational held on the Mountain View Course at Callaway Gardens. The Lions carded a 327-343--670 in the 36-hole event.

The 16-team field featured 10 of the nation's top-25 ranked NCAA Division-III teams with the entire field ranked in the top 65 teams nationally. Piedmont jumped up three spots in the latest rankings to 48th.

Piedmont's Matt Howell was the Lions' low scorer with a 36-hole total of 76-86--162 which was good for a tie for 60th out of 92 golfers.

Piedmont's team scores were the highest of the 2005-2006 season and marked the first time in the last three years the team has failed to improve its team finish in a tournament from the previous season.

The Lions will look to rebound on Tuesday, March 14th when the team hosts The Orchard Spring Invitational with tee-times set to begin at 12:00 noon.
