Piedmont Softball Records Doubleheader Split With Southern Wesleyan
After cruising to a 7-0 victory in the
first game, the Piedmont College softball team dropped the second game
in extra innings to record a split with host Southern Wesleyan University
this afternoon in Central, SC. In the first game the Lady Lions exploded
for a five-run sixth inning but were left on the field in the bottom
of the eighth of game two.
In game one, Mandy Fuston led the PC offense
by going 3-4 with three RBI's. Megan Day also went 3-4 with two RBI's
and three runs scored while Heather Denne chipped in with a solid 3-4
day from the plate. In a pinch-hitting role, Ashley Gragg went 1-1 with
a two-RBI single. Meredith Ray tallied her second win of the season
on the mound.
In game two the Lady Lions tied the game
at one in the top of the sixth. In the top of the eighth using international
tie-breaker, PC loaded the bases with no outs but was unable to bring
the go ahead run to the plate. In the bottom of the eighth SWU wasted
no time recorded the game-winning single with the first batter.
The split moves Piedmont to 2-2 overall.
The Lady Lions will return to action again on Friday, March 3rd as they
travel to NCAA Division-III South Region opponent Millsaps College in
Jackson, MS with game-time slated for 1:00 CST.
