Agnes Scott Upsets Lady Lions In GSAC Seminfinals
The Piedmont College women's basketball
team's run at the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament came to
an end today with a 60-44 upset by third-seeded Agnes Scott College.
The Lady Lions had their seven-game winning streak snapped and drop
to 20-7 overall with the loss.
Agnes Scott scored the game's first points and never relenquished the
lead as they led 27-17 at half. The 17 first-half points was a season-low
for the Lady Lions.
The second-half was all ASC as the Scotties stretched their lead to
as many as 19 points and the young Lady Lions could not mount a run.
Nikki Sosebee and Beth Adcock were the only PC players to record double-figures
with 14 and 11 points respectively. PC shot a dismal 28% from the field
and gave away 23 turnovers.
The loss drops Piedmont to 20-7 overall on the season marking the fourth
consecutive 20-win season for the PC women's basketball program. The
Lady Lions will now await word from the NCAA about a potential Pool
B bid to the NCAA Division-III National Tournament. The NCAA will releases
the tournament field on Sunday evening.
