Seven-Run Eighth Inning Propels PC To Come-From-Behind Victory 9-7
Down to their final six outs, the Piedmont
College baseball team mustered a seven-run eighth inning tonight at
Loudermilk Field en route to a 9-7 victory over non-conference opponent
Lewis and Clark College. Despite being held to only two runs on six
hits through seven innings, Piedmont erupted for six hits in the eighth.
The Lions were able to match Lewis and
Clark run for run in the first two innings, but could not keep up and
fell behind 7-2 entering the eighth. The inning was started by Travis
Hunt who recorded a walk. Following Hunt senior Mike Santowski hit a
two-run homer, his first of the season.
After four consecutive hits, a double-play,
and a wild-pitch the Lions were tied at seven with runners at second
and third and two-outs. Hunt then recorded the clutch two-out single
up the middle, driving in two runs. Josh Berens earned the victory on
the mound for the Lions while Billy Secor pitched the ninth and recorded
his first save of the season.
The victory moves PC to 2-2 overall on
the season. The Lions will return to the diamond again on Saturday,
February 18th as they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky
Mount, NC for a 1:00 start.
