Piedmont Men's Golf Team Earns Top-10 Finish At NCCAA
National Championship
The Piedmont College men's golf team faltered on the
second day of competition but held on for ninth place out of
21 teams at the National Christian College Athletic
Association National Championship at The Hombre Golf Course in
Panama City Beach, FL. The Lions carded a 36-hole total
of 629 (314-315) which was good for the school's first-ever
NCCAA top-10 finish.
The Lions opened the event with a team score of 314 and stood
in 6th place at the halfway point despite playing the opening
round in wet conditions due to Tropical Depression Matthew.
PC wrapped up play with a 315 and held on for ninth place to
improve two spots from last year's 11th place finish.
Kyle Shelnut (FR/Cleveland, GA) posted consecutive
rounds of 77 for a 36-hole total of 154 and finished just four
strokes out of All-American honors finishing in a tie for
17th.
The NCCAA National Championship appearance was the
second-consecutive for the young PC men's golf program.
