Piedmont's Sebastian Stanescu Earns NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship

Demorest, GA -
Former Piedmont College men's tennis player Sebastian Stanescu (SR/Bucharest, Romania) has been honored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a recipient of a 2005 post-graduate scholarship grant.  The post-graduate grant is the first-ever for a PC student-athlete.

Stanescu just completed a stellar career on the tennis courts as he represented PC at the 2005 NCAA Division-III Singles and Doubles National Championship.  He helped the Lions to the 2005 Great South Athletic Conference championship by earning the league's Player of the Year honor.  Additionally, he and doubles partner Valentin Sigartau (JR/Bucharest, Romania) were named as 2005 All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Recipients of the NCAA postgraduate scholarships for student-athletes who competed in spring sports have been selected.  Each of the 29 male and 29 female student-athletes will receive a scholarship of $7,500. The NCAA also awards 114 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who compete in fall and winter sports for a total of 170 annually.

One qualification for a student-athlete to receive a postgraduate scholarship is he/she must have the equivalent of an overall grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale to be considered for nomination.

Other requirements include: the student-athlete performing with distinction on varsity team in the sport, he/she must intend to continue to pursue educational opportunities beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student and he/she must have behaved on and off the field in a manner that brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics.
