Kidd named Special Assistant to the President of Piedmont College
ATHENS, GA. – Piedmont College President James Mellichamp has appointed Jane Kidd as Special Assistant to the President effective Aug. 1. Kidd has worked for 18 years in university advancement for Clemson University, The University of Georgia and as president of The Kidd Group, a consulting firm for colleges, universities, and foundations.
Kidd has also served as an elected official on the city council of Lavonia, Ga., for six years and two years as State Representative for the Athens area. Kidd’s office will be located on the Piedmont College Athens campus on Prince Avenue.
“Jane brings a broad range of knowledge and experience to the leadership team at Piedmont,” Mellichamp said. “I’m delighted to have her working with us as we continue to provide excellent educational opportunities through a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Athens, Demorest, and other locations in North Georgia.”
Kidd will be responsible for a broad and complex set of assignments from the President, including strategic communications, policy issues, board relations, and advancement activities.
A 36-year communications and public affairs veteran, Kidd has also worked in radio and television, congressional affairs and served four years as the elected Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. She holds an ABJ from the Grady College of Journalism at The University of Georgia.
Kidd has been an active member of the Athens community for 26 years, serving on numerous boards and committees of local organizations. She and her husband, David, recently built a new home in Oglethorpe County. They have two adult children and two grandchildren.
