The Art Department at Piedmont College is a multifaceted program within the Fine Arts Department offering all major studio disciplines. The studio art major includes drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and photography. Students may concentrate in Graphic Design learning the design and computer skills necessary to produce art for print, web and other commercial media. Students interested in teaching art in grades P through 12 should major in Art Education.

We are housed in a refurbished, historic building which is equipped with a darkroom, graphic design/ computer lab with Macintosh computers, studio spaces and an art gallery. Painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture facilities are housed in large spacious studios in an adjacent building. Piedmont's Art Department offers a professional environment in a small liberal arts college.

Studio and lecture classes are small in size; and students work with their professors in order to gain an understanding of the arts. The emphasis in the classroom is on giving the student a working knowledge of media and techniques and an ability to understand and analyze works of art. Students are encouraged to experiment, imagine, and be creative and grow into mature artists, teachers and art professionals.

Piedmont College is located in the mountains of North Georgia within easy reach of Atlanta. Art classes take field trips to the High Museum in Atlanta, the Greenville County Museum of Art in Greenville, South Carolina, the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, and other art institutions.
