The new Department of Art Building
Piedmont College Department of Art has big news! A new state-of-the-art facility is being built to house the Department of Art. The new Department of Art building is being constructed next to the Marten's Building.

In addition to the new facilities, The Art Gallery in downtown Demorest is being renovated to create an elegant showroom for the college's permanent collection of art as well as exhibits by students, faculty, and guest artists.

Due to the rennovations in the Art Gallery building, the Painting, Photography and Graphic Design studios have moved to one of the department's new locations. These departments can now be found in the former Marten's Botanical Center. Take a moment to visit the new design + photography lab as well as the new painting studio. Professors Jones and Professor Botts now have offices in the Marten's building.

The Art Annex

Ceramics, sculpture, drawing, art history, printmaking and the MA/MAT program facilities are housed in the large spacious studios in the Art Annex. The department has a fully equipped ceramics studio with kilns and a woodshop.

The Art Gallery building
The Art Gallery building is currently undergoing rennovations during the 2010-2011 year. Previously, the painting, photography and graphic design departments were housed in this refurbished, historic building on Georgia Street in downtown Demorest.

The Martens building
The Martens building is the new home for the graphic design, photography and painting departments. This building contains the Design studio which is used for both graphic design and digital imaging courses.

Design Studio
The graphic design studio is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including:
Apple MacPro computers
20in Apple Cinema Displays
18" HP Designjet inkjet printer
44" HP Designjet inkjet printer
2 flatbed scanners (one large format)
Film scanners
Adobe Creative Suite 5

Anagama Kiln
One of the newest additions to the art department is a Japanese-style, woodfired
Anagama kiln, built with the aid of a ninth generation potter from the Echizen region of Japan. In the 800-year-old Echizen tradition, the kiln is fired to extreme temperatures in excess of 2,300 degrees toproduce glazeless ceramic ware of uncommon beauty.
