Piedmont College will present the holiday classic opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors," at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 9, in the Center for Worship and Music in Demorest. Admission is free.
Performed by the college's Opera Workshop class and other area singers, the opera was composed by Gian-Carlo Menotti in 1951 for a Christmas Eve telecast. It tells the story of journey of the Magi as seen through the eyes of the child, Amahl.
The cast features Lydie Koffi as Amahl, Maggie Bristol as Amahl's Mother, Ben Rikeman as King Kaspar, Mitchell Auger as King Melchior, Chris Sudderth as King Balthazar, and Elizabeth Parmer as the Page. The chorus of shepherds and shepherdesses is comprised of Piedmont students and other local singers.
