Audiences will get a taste of the 18th century when the Piedmont College Department of Theatre presents "She Stoops to Conquer" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 14–16; and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Swanson Center in Demorest.

Originally titled "Mistakes of a Night," the play takes place over the course of one hysterically unfortunate evening. Following the tales of four lovers, the play offers a celebration of chaos, courtship, and the dysfunctional family. Misdemeanors multiply, love blossoms, and mayhem ensues. "She Stoops to Conquer" is directed by assistant professor of theatre John Spiegel.

Written in 1773 by Irish playwright Oliver Goldsmith, "She Stoops to Conquer" is a masterpiece of Restoration Period drama. It is produced widely within educational and professional theatres alike, due to its universal charm and accessibility as well as its intriguing period style.

The Piedmont production strives to create an 18th Century theatrical experience. Audiences will enter into the Swanson lobby, decorated to replicate an 18th Century English marketplace, before being ushered into the theater, where the play will take place under chandelier lighting with some audience members seated onstage with the actors.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Piedmont College faculty, staff, and students are admitted for free. For reservations or more information, contact the Department of Theatre Box Office at 706-778-8500 ext. 1355.
