The second show of the Piedmont College Theatre 2013-2014 season, "Courage!" is a powerful dramatization of Stephen Crane's classic novel "The Red Badge of Courage." The play is a character study of Henry Fleming, a young Union soldier fighting in the Civil War, who discovers himself through his cowardice and eventually his "courage" in battle. By the play's end, Henry and the audience learn that courage is not just about overcoming fear, but the willingness to stand up for what you believe, in spite of fear.

"Courage!" was presented Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov.  24 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $5. Piedmont students, faculty, and staff are admitted free. For reservations, contact the Piedmont College Theatre box office at 706-778-8500 ex. 1355. The play will be performed in the Black Box Theatre in the Swanson Center and seating is limited so you are encouraged to make reservations early.

Audience members will be surprised by the multi-media nature of this historical production, said director Kathy Blandin. "Our production incorporates still images, video, live music, recorded sound, shadow puppets and live action to bring Henry's thoughts to life, to transport us to many different geographical locations, and to emphasize the play's universality," she said. "Courage is not just exhibited during times of war. Courage can be demonstrated by anyone at any time."
