silverandexactPC Art Department displays works of Georgia artists

The work of 11 Georgia-based artists is on display now through Jan. 30 in the new Smith-Williams Art Studios at Piedmont College in Demorest.

The exhibit is on display Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. An informal closing reception is scheduled for 6-8 p.m., Jan. 25, in the gallery.  The newest addition to the Piedmont campus, the Smith-Williams Art Studios are located at 568 Laurel Ave., Demorest.

Titled “Silver and Exact,” the collection was curated by Piedmont art teaching fellow Brian Hitselberger. Ranging from realism to abstraction and decadence to austerity, each of the 11 artists included in the exhibition approach “drawing” and “paper” from dramatically different perspectives, Hitselberger said.

The exhibition includes works by Anthony Wislar, Jennifer Hartley, Phil Jasen and Robert Sparrow Jones, who all incorporate the human figure as a means of individual expression. Jon Swindler, Jessica Wohl, Erin MacIntosh, and Leslie Snipes approach abstract image-making from modes ranging from nervy chaos to spiritual reduction. Margot Ecke incorporates found and purloined text into meditative and celebratory paper constructions, while Hitselberger and Andrew Giannakakis use a miniscule scale as a deceptive means to access enormous subjects.
