Piedmont ‘Empty Bowls’ to help fight hunger
Want to help fight hunger in Habersham County? The Piedmont College visual arts society, Kappa Pi, is hosting its fifth-annual Empty Bowls event at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, in the Swanson Center Mainstage Theater in Demorest.
For a donation of $15, participants can enjoy a soup and bread dinner provided by El Jinete of Clarkesville and take home a keepsake handcrafted bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The bowls are made by Piedmont art students, and all proceeds go to the area Soup Kitchens.
Entertainment will include the Piedmont Theatre Department’s improve troupe, Schticks and Giggles, and music by the college’s Cantabile singers.
About half of the Piedmont freshman class will be working on all the promotional materials for the event, decorating bowls, and set up and clean up. This service project is part of the PC 101 course that introduces students to college and the community. Art Department Chair Chris Kelly says, "As students work to feed those who are less fortunate, they discover they are also feeding their own souls."
Online ticket reservations and purchases are available. Space is limited, so please reserve your ticket soon.
