Chase and Otaki duo to play at Piedmont Feb. 26


chase-otakiViolist Roger Chase of London and pianist Michiko Otaki of Japan will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Piedmont College Chapel in Demorest.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Piedmont students, faculty and staff are admitted free.

Chase studied at the Royal College of Music with Bernard Shore and in Canada with Steven Staryk, also working for a short time with the legendary Lionel Tertis, whose Montagnana viola he now plays. He currently teaches at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in Chicago.

An especially noted chamber musician, Otaki has performed and recorded with such renowned international ensembles as the Graffe String Quartet, Kodály Quartet, Swiss Wind Quintet, José White Quartet, and Martinů Quartet. She teaches at Clayton State University in Atlanta.

Together, Chase and Otaki have recorded music by Benjamin Dale, Frederic Delius, and John Ireland, and “The Tertis Tradition,” all available on Dutton Epoch, as well as “The Virtuoso Viola” on Naxos and sonatas of Johannes Brahms on Centaur.
