Patriots stuff stockings for Soldiers in Iraq

By Matthew Jackson

You would never know it by her unassuming and modest attitude, but Linda Pitts is both leading and assisting an army. The army she is assisting consists of troops in both Iraq and elsewhere. The army she is leading, with the help of Regina Fried, is the team of people, both permanent and rotating, that it takes to support the other. The latter of these is what most of us know as the Patriots of Piedmont.

Who we are.....

Patriots of Piedmont is an organization of students at Piedmont College, Demorest, Georgia. Present membership consists of over 75 members from not only the student body but from faculty and staff members and citizens of the local community.  Initial efforts leading to formation of the Patriots began before Christmas 2006 when the ladies in the Business Office at Piedmont College decided as a Christmas project to send a few packages to some local soldiers deployed to Iraq.   In just three days they collected enough items to send 15 care packages.  Realizing this effort shouldn’t just be at Christmas, these ladies led by Linda Pitts continued their soldier support. Students began to be involved. With so much publicity on the elections and the war on terrorism, an outpouring of support for the Patriots came from the college and the surrounding community.
