Frequently Asked Questions
Are there special requirements to register for a
travel/study experience?
Students must be in good standing with the College to
participate in any travel/study opportunities.
How many courses are included in each travel/study
opportunity?
Student take two courses for each travel experience which
includes class meetings, readings, and assignments during
the spring semester. Credit for the two courses is awarded
upon completion of the travel portion of the courses during
the summer semester.
What type of experiences do students have during the travel
portion of the courses?
Each faculty member plans visits to venues and plans
interactions with people in the communities. The broad range
of experiences to museums, universities, corporations, and
community organizations provide students with real world
knowledge related to their course of study.
How will grades be determined for the Travel/Study
experience?
Each faculty provides students with a syllabus for their
course as in any other course taught on the Piedmont
campuses. Course requirements and deadlines for course
assignments are outlined on each syllabus as well as a
grading rubric.
What does it cost to participate in a travel/study
opportunity?
Students pay discounted summer tuition for the two courses
and an additional amount ranging from $500 – $1,000
depending on the travel location. Students will need
additional funds for 1 meal per day, incidentals, souvenirs,
and any non-course excursions they wish to take. Students
should discuss participation with their Financial Aid
advisor and their Academic advisor before paying a deposit
for any travel/study opportunity.
How do I sign up for one of these opportunities?
An email is sent in the fall to all undergraduate students
outlining opportunities for the following summer. Students
are asked to contact the faculty who are planning the
courses and to secure an application. Notices are also
posted in the Navigator, the student run newspaper.
May I participate in more than one travel/study opportunity?
Yes, students may participate in more than one opportunity
if course credit is needed and time and funds allow.
Students should discuss participation with their Financial
Aid advisor and their Academic advisor before paying a
deposit for any travel/study opportunity.
